#10 Tutorial Time!

I am officially the worst. How long did it take me to make this tutorial? DAYS. But here it is. I'm not really sure what to title this tutorial - just another fall look I love to wear. I got tons of compliments on my makeup this day!

1. Start with clean, moisturized skin. I actually have been taking better care of my skin lately. Can you tell?

2. Add foundation, concealer, and eye primer. Nothing will ever cover my dark circles. I need to sleep more.

3. Pat a warm golden brown up to your all over your lid up to the crease. (I'm going to include products used at the bottom this time!)

4. Brush a dark, almost black burgandy/brown into the crease and slightly above. Note these pictures are before blending. BLEND MY FRIENDS. BLEND AT THIS STAGE. I just wanted you to see the color more accurately. You still can't. It was gorgeous. I'm sorry it doesn't show.

5. To soften the look up and help minimize the extra skin that is the "hood" of my eye/take up the space between my lids and brows - I blended a light, warm brown shade over the dark crease shade and well up above the crease. You can do this even if you don't have all that skin but you might not need to take it as high. You also might use this opportunity to highlight your brow bone which I chose not to do.

6. Line your top lash line and 1/2 of your bottom waterline with a dark green eyeliner with gold flecks. Blend the first warm golden brown shade under your bottom lashes to soften the dark eyeliner. And add some mascara. I need to get a new mascara - mines definitely dried out.

7. Pencil in those brows! Why do I always do tutorials when my brows need to be done?!

8. Place a warm, wine shade of blush on the apples of your cheeks. I also contoured my cheek bones a bit with a matte cool brown eyeshadow.

 9. Line and fill your lips with a dark, warm red lip liner and then top it off with a shiny similar toned lipstick!

THE FINISHED LOOK! What do you think?

At this point, I think it is pretty safe to say I won't hit 15 posts by December 1st. But I will try! I'll be working later today on making a new tutorial. I haven't decided of what yet... hmm...

#8 Let's Talk Skincare

Hey ladies! (And gents?) So I know I say a lot that I am too lazy for skincare but I'd like to take this time to say that I lied. I usually  take pretty good care of my skin. Working at Lush, it only makes sense that my skincare routine is almost 100% Lushie goodness!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3p-y3aT6xzU - Watch this video to learn about Lush's skincare philosophy. It's pretty interesting.

So here is my skincare routine!

In the morning, I like to use a face scrub every 2-3 days while in the shower. My personal favorite is Lush's Ocean Salt. This scrub is SO popular. It is the number one selling product in every Lush store. I have psoriasis that tends to get flaky. I want it smooth so I can slather makeup on top. This helps.

Then before I put on my makeup I also cover my face in Lush Celestial moisturizer. It's great for anyone who has sensitive skin! I love love love it. It's pretty heavy so if you have oily skin, I'd probably not suggest this for you.

The important part though, is taking your makeup off at night! I've been using Lush's Ultrabland to remove this. It's seriously so amazing. It takes of ALL my makeup including eyeliner/mascara but doesn't irritate - even if it gets into your eyes. I wipe it off with a warm, wet face cloth. I finish off with a spritz of Lush Eau Roma Toner Water then head to bed! I don't usually moisturize at night because the Ultrabland is quite creamy.

Sometimes, when I've worn a lot of makeup a lot of days in a row I like to cleanse with Dermalogica's Special Cleansing Gel to just get ALL THAT GUNK off my face. I don't use it everyday because I don't think I need it every day. I also use Clinique's Repairwear Laser Focus eye cream because.. I have an almost full one and want to use it up.

I don't think I talked much about skincare other than what I use. Oops.

What do YOU use in your skincare routine? Have you ever tried Lush? Do you have any Lush skincare questions?

:)

#7 Boo, you suck.

I wanted to do a lovely review of Too Faced's 3 Way Lash Lining Tool. I've had it just about 2 weeks now and have used it once.

Unfortunately, I opened it today and it was completely, 100% dried out. It is not at all usable. And that my friends is a review all in it's self.

And yes, it was stored properly.

#6

Hello, my name is Jayne and I have anxiety. I know I've talked about this before but I want to talk about it a little bit more today.

Anxiety isn't just being stressed out all the time. It's a disease. You can't focus on the positive because your mind is constantly reeling through all the bad things that could maybe might happen.

I work at 2:00.
What if I don't actually work at 2:00 tomorrow? I need to check my calendar.
What if I put it in my calendar wrong?! Let me check the schedule.
Okay. It's right. I work at 2:00.
BUT WHAT IF I READ THE SCHEDULE WRONG?
I didn't. I don't need to look. I'm not stupid. It's 2:00.
I checked again. I work at 2:00.
I should go to sleep so I can be well rested for opening day.
Oh my god. I've been in bed 15 minutes and I'm not even tired.
What if I can't sleep at all?! What if that makes me groggy and I mess up?!
"Matt. I can't sleep. I'm nervous for tomorrow." "Jayne, you will be fine.."
...8 hours of restless nightmare filled semi sleep later..
I should get ready for the day! I'm so excited we are FINALLY OPENING.
Oh my God. That's a lot of pressure. I can't mess up today.
If I shower now and do my makeup now - I'll look sloppy by 2:00.
2:00? I work at 2:00... right?
Checks calendar AND schedule. Yes. I work at 2:00.
Ok. I'm going to relax and do some product knowledge until I need to get ready.
There's so much to remember. WHAT IF I FORGET SOMETHING?
I'll get fired. I know I will. I won't be able to remember all this and I will get fired.
What if I miss the bus and I'm late for work?
I should get ready now. I need to leave early because I can't be late.
Late is bad. I hate late people. If I'm late I will look bad.
What if I look bad? What if none of the people at work like me?
What if none of the customers like me?
I am going to suck at this. I am going to get fired.
Especially if I am late for my shift at 2:00.
It is at 2:00 right? Yes. It's at 2:00.
It hasn't changed.

This hasn't changed.

This is a very, very small excerpt of what life is like when you struggle with an anxiety disorder. And that's just the worries of ONE 12 hour span regarding ONE aspect of my life - but you aren't just anxious about work. You're anxious about your relationships, you're health, you're family, and basically everything else that could ever matter to you. A crushing, pinning feeling that no matter what you do EVERYTHING can and will go wrong.

It doesn't. Well, sometimes it does. Sometimes things worse than your worst possible scenario happen. I'm also going through this period where I quit an awesome full time job that paid very well to work somewhere that was going to pay much less but I thought would be a labour of love. Except that didn't work out. And now I'm lost. How am I going to pay rent this month when I've less than $100 in the bank and almost no income coming? What about Christmas? How will I buy presents for the people I love? What will Matt's friends and family think when they hear I've quit managing a Jugo to work at a dance wear store that didn't work out and now I'm working less than 12 hours a week? He's pretty successful and I'm just.. not.

In some ways it's good - I have an open schedule which means more time for Lush. I adore working at Lush. It's lovely people, lovely products, and lovely beliefs. I think I would like a career there even! It's the happiest I've ever been at a job - don't let my anxiety excerpt fool you. But it's not going to pay my bills and I'm not one of the fortunate people who never truly have to worry about those things. If I can't pay my bills it's a big deal. There's no one I can call up who will bail me out. People always say to pursue your passion and no one ever tells you that it's only a viable option if you have a way to support yourself while pursuing it.

Anyway, I'm sorry because this had nothing to do with cosmetics. It was basically my rant about how awful my life is. And it's not awful. I have this amazing boyfriend who supports me no matter what. He even supports me when my anxiety makes me ask every 5 minutes "Am I bothering you?" And whether or not I'm going to make my December rent I DO have an awesome job. If you don't know much about Lush you should really check it out! They have incredible ethics.

#5 Benefits Boi-ing Review

Meow! While I was in Portland, Oregon I realized I had forgotten to bring concealer with me. I have huge under eye circles all the time so this was a pretty big "emergency." Luckily, I had brought some spending money along and have a champ of a boyfriend who agreed to come to Sephora with me.

I'd always heard great things about Benefit concealers and this happened to be the only one in my shade that was in stock.

My first impression was that it was a bit heavy and hard to get onto my brush - I ended up just using my fingers. It was creamy and I found that it set well and stayed in place. A lot of reviews said it rubbed off but I didn't find that at all! Mind you, I didn't do my makeup today until 3:00 but it's not 8:40 and my skin still looks perfect! It covered all my redness quite well and I didn't even end up having to wear foundation. It also covered up the dark circles decently. However, it was a bit yellow for my complexion. Upon looking at the pictures I definitely wish I had blended some of my foundation over top. Over all, I would give this product 3.5 stars. It does what it says it will - but it's not amazing and I wish there were more color options!

THIS IS MY SKIN COMPLETELY NAKED. As you can see, I have dark circles under my eyes and redness on my cheeks/nose area. Actually, you can't see it that much.

My skin with nothing on except concealer!

My face now at 8:43 pm/ You can see the foundation stayed in place and I'm still not red!

#4 Halloween Makeup Gigs - An Adventure in Bearded Face Painting

Yesterday, I had a makeup gig (a paid one! woot!) doing 2 Halloween makeups for a party. It was kind of fun because it extended my candy eating and Halloween celebrating just one more day!

I made Kristie into a pilot rocking her cat eye red lip. And then there was Kory who told me at a mere 8 hours before he showed up that he wanted to be a shark. Also, he has a beard. And I got rid of most of my face painting stuff... because oh yeah I CAN NOT FACE PAINT. My lack of drawing skills always get the best of me when I'm trying to face paint. I try so hard but literally always end up unhappy with my work. :(

Anyway, I had just over an hour to do both makeups which is a time crunch when your trying to do something you aren't good at.

Here are some pictures!

The super pretty Kristie looking flawless in a cat eye, red lip!

I wish Kory would have let me paint around his eyes more. It's really the only thing I think prevented me from thinking it was at least passable. But hey, he's the customer and most guys don't want black stuff on their eyes. Are you wondering about this picture? Kory also doesn't stay still for pics.

And now for some pictures Kristie took during the party - definitely taken after their party was well under way. ;) I'm glad my friends had a good evening and that I could contribute!

#3 Lush Caca Rouge Mama & My Halloween Face

I have a problem. It is a hair dye problem. I have not seen my natural hair color in more than 10 years. My father freakin' peroxide bleached my hair for my 13th birthday, my natural hair isn't a very pretty color, and I HATE roots - so I've dyed my hair probably 100 times. That's a lot. Now, I'm 23 years old with damaged gross hair that falls out in clumps. I LOVE being a red head and can't ever imagine going back to my natural hair color but I knew I needed to stop chemically dying my hair. Enter Lush Caca Rouge Mama. This natural henna dye is not only not bad for your hair - it's actually good for it. It's got cocoa butter in it and no harsh chemicals. Based on reviews - the color varies GREATLY depending on current hair color, the length of time you leave it in, and some people even add things to it!

The thing with Henna is that it's permanent! I won't be able to bleach it out if I don't like it. I can't dye over it. Eep! I was a little bit nervous to start but after a couple weeks researching I decided to take the plunge. I have had my hair so many shades of red and loved them all. And it will definitely be good for my hair to have a preventative measure against chemical dyes. ;)

I should have taken pictures of the whole process but I forgot until halfway through! I started by mixing 3 squares from the henna block with hot water and mixing it til it's even and dissolved. The consistency was like batter. My initial reaction was shock at how green the henna was when mixed up and how strong it smelled. It's definitely not unpleasant just quite fragrant. I applied it to my whole head with my hands which was kind of like having a 1 man mud fight - fun but it did cause me to miss a couple spots. I will have to be more careful next time!

I wrapped it up in a shower cap and gave it a quick blast with the hair dryer to keep it nice and hot. Then I set the timer - I decided to leave it on 5 hours!! I kept it hot by blasting it every 30 minutes with the dryer. According to reviews, this gets you a brighter red.

FAST FORWARD 5 HOURS TO SHOWER TIME. This is what it looked like. Mud in my hair! It was pretty difficult to get out and I had to shampoo three times to get the gritty pieces out completely.

...But was it worth the hassle?

YES!!!!!
My hair is the perfect, vibrant orangey red I was going for. Ignore the bad hair in these pics. It's before styling. Although it wasn't a miracle cure for my obviously damaged hair, today it is definitely looking shinier than it has in awhile. I even got a compliment!

PS: I dressed up as a pirate last night for Halloween just because I could. Here was my pirate-y makeup. You can't really tell the hair color here though.

PPS: I also cut off 3.5 inches of my hair! Trying to get it healthier and all. And Kristie reshaved my lines for the first time in almost a year. :D
