Sultry Valentine's Day Tutorial!

Hello again! This morning I was hanging around the house and I decided it was close enough to Valentine's Day to do a tutorial of a potential look! I'm thinking about wearing this on my date with Matt before he goes out of town!

 Start with a clean, moisturised face! This is my "just woke up" face. I'm even wearing pajamas.

 Foundation time! I've used L'Oreal True Match in N1. I like it but it oxidises a lot which sucks.

 Cover your whole lid  lashes to brow bone with a shimmery white cream shadow. This is Maybelline's Colour Tattoo in Too Cool.

 Pat a pale shimmery pink on your inner 1/3 of your lashes up to the crease. I've used my Lorac Pro palette and the color is Nude. You see that vein? IT IS THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE. It shows through everything except the thickest concealer. Then it looks like a harsh unblended shadow line and I try to blend it out. EVERY. TIME.

Pat a darker color in the same family in the middle 1/3 of your lid.  I used a cool bronze - YDK from Urban Decay's Naked 2 palette.

 Take a deep, purpley brown like Naked 2's Busted and place it in the outer 1/3 of your eye and into and above the crease. Sometimes the white balance on my phone gets off. This picture is an excellent example of that.

 Blending time. The most important time! Check out that fall out. It's one of the reasons UD sometimes aggravates me. But I still love it.

 This is what it should look like now.

 I decided to make it a bit more dramatic by adding some black into the very outer corner and slightly into the crease. I had the Naked 2 palette out so I used Blackout.

 Line your water line, upper and lower, with a true black pencil. I used Kat Von D's Waterproof Autograph Pencil in Puro Armor.  *Not pictured- me stabbing myself in the eye. Hard!

 Blend that harsh line out with some of the dark brown eye shadow we used earlier! Mine was Busted - what did you use?

 Blend it out even further using the shade you used on the middle of your lid (YDK).

 Time to clean up the fall out and conceal under your eyes! My eyes are not concealable but I try using Benefit Boi-ing in 01.

 Line your top lash line using the same black pencil! It's all coming together!

 At this point fill in your eyebrows, contour, add some blush. I used all shades from a palette I got in school for this part and it's unbranded!  I did however, highlight my brow bone using Naked 2's Bootycall!

 Add some falsies, mascara (Lancome Hypnose Mascara for me!), and sweet pink gloss like NYX Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait.

 And you are done! Don't be like me and do this look before you shower. You will end up heart broken you need to clean yourself!

Halo Makeup ft theBalm's nude'tude and a dramatic lip! Tutorial time.

Hey guys! This year at Christmas time I participated in an exchange on Reddit. My gifter was super generous and one of the things she sent me was a Nude'tude palette by theBalm. I feel like I've already mentioned that but it bears repeating. She was amazing. And I LOVE this palette. It's definitely one of my Top 2 palettes I own. Here is a semi dramatic (mostly the lips) tutorial using it! They eye shadow technique I'm going to use today is called "Halo" which is where there is a darker colour on the outer AND inner corners of the eye. I kept these colours fairly subtle as I was just going to a staff meeting. Remember, I'm using the nude'tude palette but you can use any shadows you want!

1. As usual, start with a clean and moisturized face! I also put a lip balm on here because my lips are super peely right now. I used Lush products for these steps. Ultrabland Cleaser, Eau Roma Water Toner, Celestial Moisturizer, Enchanted Eye Cream, and Honey Trap Lip Balm.

 2. Foundation time! Buff that stuff all over your face. An even skin tone is important for looks like this! My foundation in L'Oreal True Match in N1 Soft Ivory.

3. Now you can contour! Everyone loves to have a lovely contoured face. I shaded the hollows under my cheek bones, under my chin, around my forehead, and the sides of my nose. I highlighted my cupids bow, the top of my cheekbones, the centre of my forehead, chin, and down my nose. I decided to go subtle which was good because we ended up giving facials to each other at the staff meeting.

4. Fill in your brows. I used NYX's Eyebrow Cake Powder in Brunette. If you have Brunette hair, I do not recommend this product. It's definitely pretty read! Then prime your eyes! I used Lorac Behind The Scenes primer.

5. Blend a matte neutral colour (Sultry) into and above your crease. As usual, I've gone way up with my crease colour because of the massive space between my lids and brows.

6. Pat the colour Seductive on the inner and outer 1/3 of your eye and into the crease. Make sure you leave the middle blank!

7. And blend my friends! Blend, blend, blend!! Please ignore the veins on my super pale see through eye lids. 

8. You know that spot we left blank? Pat Stand Offish onto the spot and blend it in.

9. Line your top lash line using a shimmery brown pencil. I used Clinique's Cream Shaper for Eyes in Chocolate Lustre.

10. Line your inner waterline with a black pencil like the Kat Von D Waterproof Autograph Pencil in Puro Armor. Buff it out with the Seductive Shadow. Add some mascara! I used one by Lumene. I got it in a package from a Finnish friend!

11. Line and fill in your lips using a deep lip liner. I used Ben Nye's Vino! Stop here  if you want a lovely matte lip! Voila!

 12. Or add a clear gloss to it for a shiny pretty look! HERE ARE A TON OF PICS OF THE FINISHED LOOK.

 Yep, see those peely lips. Aren't they beautiful? I meant to sugar scrub them at work then reapply and take more pictures. The facial thing kinda ruined that plan!

 Also. I bleached my brows. CAN YOU TELL?

Clown Makeup Tutorial #1

IF YOU HATE CLOWNS DON'T READ THIS ENTRY. So, my mom has some dance students doing a clown dance this year and I've been charged with designing them a makeup. It has to be simple enough that they can do it themselves but still really cool. This is my first attempt. I'm not really happy with it but I figured I'd make a tutorial for it for them in case they like it. :)

1. Start with a clean face. Or a not clean face if you are a dancer piling this on top of other stage makeup. 

2. Put a white base all over your whole face. I used the white from the Basic Paradise Palette. I'm not crazy about it. It's a really translucent white. 

3. Take a creamy black eyeliner and roughly line all over your lids up to and slightly above the crease and just under your bottom lash line.

4. Pat black eye shadow all over the liner and blend it out. It doesn't need to be pretty. You're going to be a creepy clown. Mine is just a crappy no name brand black shadow.

5. Pencil those eyebrows in all black and archy. Oh yeah, I'm using Kat Von D Waterproof Autograph Pencil in Puro Armor.

6. Roughly mark out where your creepy clown triangles are going to go. This is just for getting them symmetrical. 

7. Fill it in and add some curvys to the bottom. Be smarter than me and set this with eyeshadow as well. I didn't. 

8. Make a black outline with of your nose.

9. Put a dot of red lipstick in the middle. Mix a tiny bit of the black pencil with the red lipstick to make a slightly darker red and put that around the bright dot.

10. Blend it together! Now you have a clown nose!

11. Put your lipstick on! This is Clinique's Red-y To Wear

12. Outline your lips in black. This adds to the creepyness. And makes your lips look cool.

13. Get ready to do little black horns on your eye brows...

14. OR.. be like me and totally mess it up so instead you just make your brows huge. Oooops. I also added little lipstick blushes. Make these bigger. I did them too small.

15. AM I CREEPY YET?

16. Don't try to take it off using only baby wipes.

Anyway. That's my crappy clown tutorial. I'll try to make the next one better!

How I Clean My Brushes

Happy New Year! Today is January 2, 2014 and my first post in the New Year. I've been MIA during December because a) I work in retail and b) Matt and I actually moved on Christmas Eve. It was a huge pain in the butt. Our new place is so cute though and in a much nicer area. I'll post a tutorial and more about my holidays soon but right now I just want to show you how *I* clean my brushes.

There are so many different methods of cleaning brushes but this is the one I do most often to get a good deep clean and keep my brushes soft. I have another way to clean my brushes that is faster and sanitizes them which I do any time I have had a breakout or done make up on a client but it tends to leave my brushes not in their soft prime.

Here we go:

First, I put all my dirty brushes on the side of the sink. I take my make up palette and squeeze a dollop of shampoo on one side and a dollop of conditioner on the other side. I use brush guards to keep my bristles in tip top shape so I also get those out on the counter.

I've been using I Love Juicy shampoo by Lush Cosmetics lately and seriously don't think I will ever go back to using anything else!! I know a lot of people use baby shampoo because it's milder but my best instructor in make up school used dish soap or hand soap depending on what she had on hand and her brushes turned out ok. I Love Juicy is seriously cleans EVERYTHING out of my brush in one quick wash. I've used milder shampoos and they just don't get out product as well. None of my white bristled brushes have even a trace of stain on them, I don't have to scrub and rewash my foundation brushes. I Love Juicy has pineapple, papaya, kiwi, and mango in it and the enzymes are amazing for removing makeup!

Second thing I do is turn on the water to a lukewarm temperature. I take the brush by the handle and wet the bristles. Hold the brush bristles down and avoid getting water onto the ferule as much as possible. DO NOT TURN THE BRUSH BRISTLES UP! The water will drip down into the ferule. After the brush is damp dip it into your shampoo. Swipe the brush back and forth on your palm. The shampoo will suds up and remove product. Thoroughly rinse the shampoo and repeat again if there is still colour in the brush. Repeat with conditioner. Minus the swiping and sudsing part. I don't have a picture of this step because it's a two handed process, Here is a picture of brush guards.

After the brush is cleaned and conditioned, I remove all the excess water onto a clean towel by pressing gently. The angle of this picture makes it look awkward but it's not. 

I pop a brush guard on and leave the brush with the bristles at the end of the counter on another clean towel. 

This is the part where Phileas decides the counter top is HIS napping space. I finally get him off just in time for Amelia to jump up! At my old place, the cats knew better than to jump up when I was cleaning brushes but I think the counter access from both sides intrigues them.

Here is what it looks like when I am all done! I need to get more brush guards. I hate not having enough!
